Viking Refrigerator Repair
Viking refrigeration built into Newton cabinetry — full-height columns, side-by-sides and undercounter drawers. Cooling faults, defrost problems and water lines.
How it gets described
The call, in the caller's words
- Refrigerator warm after a power cut
- Ice forming on the back wall of the fresh food side
- Drawer front no longer sitting flush with the panel
- Dispenser slow to fill a glass
On the visit
What actually gets measured
- Compartment temperatures read at the shelf, not off the display
- Evaporator and condenser behaviour through a full cycle
- Defrost cycle watched through, heater and terminator under load
- Drain path from trough to pan, which is where most ice starts
- Water line pressure and the inlet valve on a dispenser model
Three steps, same as every call
-
01
The plate and the symptom
Model and serial off the rating plate, plus what the appliance is actually doing. Half of these calls are narrowed to two or three candidates before anyone is dispatched.
-
02
Measured, not guessed
Gas pressure at the manifold, element and sensor resistance, cavity temperature against the set point, pump and valve behaviour on a dishwasher. Numbers, taken in your kitchen.
-
03
One number, then the work
Parts and labour quoted together and agreed before anything is opened. If the sensible answer is that the repair is not worth doing, that is the answer you get.
What it costs
$95
Flat service call. It covers the visit and the full diagnosis, and it comes off the bill in full if you approve the repair.
And where the repair itself usually lands
- Igniter or burner assembly $290$610
- Oven thermostat or heating element $230$780
- Control board or touch panel $360$850
- Dishwasher pump or control $280$1,250
- Refrigeration fan or defrost system $290$750
- Compressor or sealed-system repair $1,110$2,520
Parts and labour together, quoted before anything is opened. A comparable replacement appliance runs $7,170 to $12,390 before delivery, fitting or cabinetry, which is why most of these repairs are still the cheaper answer.

On refrigerator repair
After the March power cut it came back warm and stayed warm. The compressor start capacitor had gone. He had one on the van and we were cold again before lunch.

The dispenser had slowed to a trickle. He tested the line and found the inlet valve partly seized rather than a frozen tube, which is what I had assumed. New valve, and it fills a glass in seconds.

Ice was forming on the back wall of the fresh food side and dripping onto the shelf below. The drain was blocked and the defrost cycle was cutting short. He cleared it, fitted a thermistor and left the shelves clean.
